Who Invented Wi-fi
We all must have used Wi-Fi at some point or ask for the Wi-Fi passport. We use Wi-Fi in the unavailability of the internet. Well before that others must not have think about such technology which will access the internet even without wire or cable.
Most of the people think that the internet and Wi-Fi is the same thing which is partially true. Both of these are connected with each other but you can’t use Wi-Fi at place of the internet and vice versa. So understand Wi-Fi in detail:
What is Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is the abbreviated form of Wireless Fidelity. It is the wireless technology used for networking in smart phones, computers, smart TVs, laptops, iPods and some other devices. The frequency of Wi-Fi signal is very high. So when we connected our device to Wi-Fi, the device receives radio signals from the air.
These wireless access points are also available in public places. You must have notice somewhere Free Wi-Fi. These public points are mainly hotels, café and restaurants, libraries, public transport, airports and universities to provide the internet access.
This technology is known as WLAN. The expanded from of WLAN is Wireless Local Area Network.
How the Wi-Fi technology works?
The main component of Wi-Fi is Router. Router is small equipment which is directly connected with the internet cable. The function of router is to broadcast the radio signals. In Wi-Fi technology, there is a transmitter and a receiver. There is also a component adapter which is connected from the router. The function is to receive or read the signals and also send back or transfer the signals. These transmissions of signals are known as Upstream and Downstream Activity.
Who invented Wi-Fi?
However, there were several people who claimed for the invention of Wi-Fi. But there was also a name of Hollywood Actress, who invented a key technology of wireless network system. Without that technology Wi-Fi could never be possible.
Early Life-
Hedy Lamarr was the most popular actress of Hollywood. She was born on November 9, 1914 in Austria. She was invented the Signal Frequency Hopping Technology. This technology is used in Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. This technology is invented in 1940.
Furthermore, there were many other names who claim for the patent of Wi-Fi. In 1992 and 1996, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) obtained the patent for the WLAN.
Hedy Lamarr was an only child. Her father was a Bank Director. She was inspired by her father. When she was only five years old, her father discussed about the working principles of machines with her.
Her Hollywood Journey-
Lamarr was too brilliant and curious from childhood. But her beauty had always supplanted by her intelligence. Her beauty had become the center. She studied acting from Berlin. And in 1930, she got her first film role. And Hollywood and film industry is the place where actresses are known for their looks rather than their talent. So Lamarr was also one of them. Intact most of the people stated that she was the most beautiful women in the world.
Her interest in science and innovative
Although she was most popular and achieved fame as a Hollywood Star, still Lamarr never forgot her love and curiosity in science. Lamarr had a deep knowledge about both the radio technology and the weapons industry. She also did experiments on her idea. Lamarr once said, “I don’t have to work on ideas. They came naturally in my mind.”
Her idea was to using changing and several frequencies which will helpful to make signal wreck harder. And that effect was known as the Signal Frequency Hopping. The intent behind this idea and innovative was; she was deeply affected by World War and for the convenience of army she wanted to innovate something for wireless communication. Her ‘Secret Communication System’ used the frequency hopping technology which could also work underwater and couldn’t detect by the radar of enemies.
Hedy Lamarr’s Achievements-
She did incredible work as a actress. In acting and beauty, she was The Icon. But apart from this journey let’s focus on her other side. In 1997, for her golden and lifetime achievement, she had honored by the Pioneer Award for the inventors from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EEF). She invented the key technology of wireless network.
Death and Legacy-
Hedy Lamarr died in year 2000 at the age of 86.Everyone believed that she had a beautiful looks and appearance but her wisdom and talent proved that she had a beautiful heart too.
