Lent is one of the popular festival of Christian religion. The first day of lent is known as Ash Wednesday.
Lent is a very important festival in the Christian calendar. It is a period of six weeks 40 days (Sundays are not included) leading up to Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately 6 weeks before Easter Sunday. Its traditional purpose is to preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, and repentance of sins. The last week of Lent is known as Holy Week. Lent is a very religious festival.
History
There are some glorious myths are associated with Lent. During the 40 days of Lent, The believers remember the time when Jesus Christ went to desert to fast and pray before starting his work for God. That was the time when Jesus was tempted several times by Satan, but always resisted.
Fasting
Lent is the time to give up all the bad habits. Christians remember the Jesus Christ fasted in the desert and test the self discipline. Meat, Fish, Milky products, Fats, eggs are restricted to eat in the Lent. Some Christians don’t take the foods that they like most like Chocolates, Cakes etc.
Shrove Tuesday
It is the day before Lent. It is also known as Pancake Day. This day is celebrated because it provides the last chance to eat the food that can’t be eaten during Lent. It is celebrated in many cities in all over the world.
Public Life
It is not a federal holiday because it is not a one day festival. It lasts 40 days, ending in the holy week. Lent is a time of preparation for Easter.
