Some anecdotes that she shared
In one of her interviews with an entertainment media, Nushrratt shared an amusing event when her father discovered she was wearing a bralet in the track Chote Chote Peg from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. She went on to add that she didn’t tell her parents about the song because she was apprehensive of their reaction. She didn’t even show them the track when it was released. Afterward, when she returned from promos to find her family watching Chote Chote Peg on their big television. She was silently slipping into the room when her father asked her in slo-mo if she was wearing a bra in the song, to which she burst out laughing and replied that it was a bralet and wondered how she would handle this situation.
When questioned why she wasn’t exploring enough to evolve as an actress in another interview, Nushrratt revealed that both she and Freida Pinto were shortlisted for the female role in the Academy award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, but unfortunately, she was not chosen due to her facial features. She claimed that the director’s crew sat her down and informed her that she didn’t appear like a slum girl. She was further told that she was a fantastic actress and that everything about her was flawless, other than the fact that her appearance didn’t match the role. She contended that it had happened to her as well subsequently. She was described by casting directors appearing as an urban girl with sharp features, and that might be true, but she believes that we live in a time where modern make-up procedures are accessible that can make her look exactly like the character. She added that she doesn’t understand how people are okay with seeing Shraddha Kapoor in the roles of the affluent Riya Somani and Haseena Parkar, the sister of an underworld don. She assumed this was due to the fact that Shraddha is a star with widespread acceptance, and directors are open to experimentation with her looks, whereas she has yet to attain recognition.
In another interview with a media outlet, Nushrratt acknowledged being depressed despite having a successful profession. She explained that the journey was challenging for her and that it would have been even tougher if it hadn’t been for the support of her parents and loved ones. Nushrratt, who comes from a traditional background, has said that her parents were dissatisfied with her decision to pursue a career in the glitzy movie business. Even then, her parents were extremely encouraging, as she said that her father nearly cried when he saw one of her appearances in which she acknowledged that she had gone through depression. She further shared that her father saw the interview the night it aired, and when she got back home, he broke down into tears and told her that he had no idea she had gone through all of this. Nushrat went on to say that the only thing that kept her going back then was the reality that she would wake up to her parents and that her typical, uncomplicated life had served as her foundation. After a string of disappointments, Nushrratt relished the limelight she began to receive following ‘Pyaar ka Punchnama 2’ and, more significantly, after ‘Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety.’ She stated that she now understands the actual essence of success. Fans following her down for photographs and autographs, with photographers trailing her car. It was unusual to her. She revealed as she embraced the fact that she really enjoys every moment of it. She believes her fame has grown to a new height, and she now considers herself a member of the movie community.
Controversies
The high-slit dress controversy
Nushrratt caused quite a stir in early 2020 when she attended the Filmfare Award 2020 and chose to wear a fairly revealing gown. While the upper of the dress appeared to be totally concealed, it was the bottom cut that drew her into dispute. The split was not just thigh-high; it went all the way down to her hips, and the outfit was fastened by two leather straps. She was later approached by several media houses, in which she discussed the controversy surrounding her outfit due to the high slit. She responded to the uproar by stating that everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint and the right to express themselves. And similarly, it was her choice to wear that outfit, and she had the absolute right to wear whatever she preferred.
Despite the fact that many people thought the dress was too audacious, Nushrat was unaffected by the critiques. She remarked that all of the compliments on the outfit were a confidence booster for her because she was able to connect with a certain audience. She added that it really gives her a great deal of courage to get on with these style statements, to sort of raise the bar where she feels it and where she wants to go, she added. When asked if she was scared wearing that dress, she said that she understood exactly what she was wearing and how she needed to conduct herself, including what kind of stride or pose to take or just to be mindful of what not to do. She thought she was completely confident in her abilities and did not appear to be worried at all.
Receiving hate for promoting condoms
In 2022, Nushrratt Bharuccha eventually transitioned from glamourous roles in classic movies to content-driven projects that focused on social themes. The diva can be seen in a positive context in Janhit Mein Jaari, which was released this year; however, this time, she takes that additional step by portraying a condom saleswoman. Unfortunately, several people were offended by the representation of a saleswoman hawking condoms. The trolls have been aggressive since the launch of the poster and the teaser of the movie.
Nushrat was slut-shamed and mocked for endorsing condoms. She responded to the detractors by releasing screenshots of the nastiest and vulgar remarks made in reaction to her film’s message. Nushrat added while showing the screenshots, – This is the only mindset that needs to be fixed and that she will speak her mind if someone raises their finger. Meanwhile, she was asked how she felt when she was offered the character of a lady selling condoms, and she stated that she did not feel uneasy even once or questioned whether or not she should take the role. She also stated that she believes that knowledge about such delicate issues should be communicated by both schools and parents. Also, since children believe their parents, it is critical for parents to discuss sex with their children instead of developing a wrong perception about it after hearing it from unreliable sources.
The film, however, didn’t simply attract trolls because of its content; it was also taken to court by a writer named Deepak Singh, who claimed that the film, Janhit Mein Jaari, was based on his work. His book’s design was also used on the original poster for the film.
Link-up rumors
Despite the fact that the actress has not been linked to any Bollywood stars, few names have surfaced. Two men from the industry have been speculated to have dated Nushrat; however, she has not publicly acknowledged her association with any of them. One of the names would be Kartik Aryan. Nushrat and Kartik have collaborated on 4 movies. The actors have a hot on-screen spark, and speculations of the on-screen pair courting, in reality, began to emerge on the shoot of their first collaboration, Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Before the popularity of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, the duo was seen together in several instances. Both of them, although, have always refuted their relationship speculations. They always maintained that they were just good friends in front of the media. In public, they firmly reiterated that they were just good friends.
Luv Ranjan, the director of four of Nushrat’s films, was yet another guy with whom she was reported to be involved. In Bollywood, speculations of a heroine-director relationship are nothing unusual. This pattern has been present for quite some time. Nushrat was reportedly in a strong, loving affair with director Luv Ranjan, as per sources. There were speculations that the two started dating during the filming of Pyaar ka Punchnama 2. Luv Ranjan and Nushrat, on the other hand, have constantly denied such reports, rejecting any form of an intimate relationship.
