SQL stands for Structured Query Language. It is generally pronounced as see-qwell. It is a widely used programming language designed for working with Relational DataBase Management System.
Initially, it was named as SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language) designed to add, update or remove data from within a database. Later, it changed its name as Structured Query Language (SQL).
History
SQL is originally based upon Relational Algebra and Tuple Relational Calculus. SQL was developed at IBM by Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce in the early 1970s.
