TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language
TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is a popular English proficiency exam which is conducted to evaluate the ability of an individual to use and understand English language. It tests the reading, listening, speaking and writing skills required to perform various academic tasks. TOEFL is administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). It sets the questions, conducts the test and provides the score card to the examinees.
This exam tests your understanding of North-American English, so this exam is best suited for those students who want to study in US and Canada. For those students who want to study in other countries like UK and Australia, IELTS is the most preferred exam, although TOEFL is also accepted in these countries.
TOEFL is conducted throughout the year around more than 50 times in a year. It allows you appear in the test as many times as you wish but there should be a gap of twelve days between the previous and next exam. The exam comprises four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
The candidate receives the mail when his or her scores are available, around 10 days after the exam. The candidate can also log in on the TOEFL Registration website to see the scores. Printed score reports are mailed around 13 days after the test date. The scores are valid for two years.
