Surds and Indices Concepts and Formulas
Laws of Indices
1) Case 1: Multiplication
When the bases are same, and the powers are different or same then, in this case, all the powers are added, i.e.
2) Case 2: Division
When the bases are same, and the powers are different or same then, in this case, all the powers are subtracted, i.e.
3) If any number has the power of power then it is multiplied, i.e.
4) If the power of any number is zero (0) then it is equal to 1, i.e.
5) If any number has power ‘n’ then, i.e.

Laws of Surds
1) The roots of those quantities which cannot be accurately obtained are called surds,e.g. √2,√(2&7 ),etc.
2) When a rational number and a surd multiplied together to produce a mixed surd,e.g.,2 √(3 ),4 √(5,) etc.
3) a1/n is called the surd of the nth order.
